South Korea's Choi Misun‚ Chang Hye-jin and defending champion Ki Bobae are all in the quarterfinals of the women's individual archery competition. They dispatched their rivals in the top-16 of the competition in comfortable fashion‚ including in the inter-Korean match-up between Chang Hye-jin and North Korea's Kang Un-ju. The three archers have already won gold at these Olympics in the team event‚ but now they will also be looking to emulate past Korean women's teams who completed a clean sweep of the individual event medals twice before‚ in Seoul 1988‚ and Sydney 2000. Elsewhere in Rio‚ for the first time in a hundred-and-two years‚ golf is taking place at the Olympics. Korea's An Byeonghun was in the very first group teeing off on this historic occasion‚ and finished a strong 3 under par. It was meant to be a momentous occasion for the sport‚ but before a ball was struck‚ there was controversy‚ as dozens of players pulled out of the competition citing concerns about the Zika virus outbreak‚ including the top 4 ranked such as Jason Day and Jordan Spieth.
